Simply plug into your wall at home or pull over at a public charging station. Currently there are over 150,000 charging points in the EU and this should increase to 2 million within 5 years. While some public charging points provide ‘open access’, meaning use is free, the majority belong to network providers so you may need a card or mobile app.
For faster charging you can use a Lexus Wall Charger. It is advised that you hire a professional engineer to install your home charger and Lexus will organise a trusted partner to carry out the work. For peace of mind, it will ensure the wiring of the unit is secure and at the required standard.
The battery powering your Lexus will generally last for the life of the vehicle. Investigations show that many electric cars have around 75% of their battery capacity after 120,000 miles (193,000 km). Others show an even better longevity with 5% loss after 80,000 km and another 5% after 241,000 km. With the average electric car driver only covering about 15,000 km per year, most will never need a new battery.
Importantly for the planet, when your Lexus battery reaches the end of its life span, we have a take-back scheme to ensure it is recycled safely and responsibly. Currently we are retrieving more than 90% of our batteries in Europe through our retailer networks, but our aim is to achieve a 100% take-back rate through all our operations.
If you have access to home charging and your typical journeys are less than 200 miles (320 km) then an all-electric car is a great choice. Plus with government incentives and reduced taxes, now could be the right time to start your electrified journey and enjoy greener driving.
EV technology has advanced considerably in the last 10 years. The charging station network is growing and range anxiety is becoming less of a worry for drivers, with most EV owners rarely reaching the upper limits of their range. While purchase price may seem like an expense, many find that when calculating their personal charging times, running costs and maintenance ownership of an EV vehicle over time is cost efficient.
Electric cars have fewer moving parts, no exhaust system, smaller and more efficient cooling systems, no oil, no engine filters and no timing belts making maintenance simpler and cheaper. There is also less wear on brakes so you can expect to spend more time on the road and less in the garage.
The savings start as soon as you begin driving. Electricity costs tend to be more stable and easier to predict over time than Diesel and Petrol. Many electricity providers offer cost saving EV tariffs, helping you charge at greener times.
